Last night I went to a surprise party for me at the Royal oak! It was a ton of fun, great to see everyone. I didn't see it coming either! It's great to be back and to see everyone who came out.

Now it's back to normal life, slowly. I'm at Heather's place right now, being a house boyfriend while she works. I'm going to bake some cookies for her today. :P

Going to get my pc back up and running this weekend and find a copy of my cv. I hear the IT job market is pretty good right now, I'm excited.

I'll be heading home starting at 7 tonight! It's been fun, I can't really believe I'm heading home. Rather broke at this point. I think I'm going to go on a ramen and tree bark diet.

I stitched all of my panoramas yesterday, the following one's my favorite. I took it from the top of Mt Doom!

Rain! [Mar. 30th, 2007|09:55 pm]
I flew from Christchurch to Auckland yesterday. The plan to was to take a connecting flight to Whangarei to meet up with my uncle again. However, there was an incredible rain storm over Whangarei and Kerikeri, with record rain levels in Kerikeri. I believe there was about 350 mm of rain recorded around Whangarei. Which is a lot. So the flight was delayed and then canceled. We were all bused up there. But then the main highway to Whangarei was closed due to flooding! So we took a side trip through Dargaville to Whangarei. Long day! Got into Whangarei around 10:30 pm, took a taxi out to my uncle's place in the country, was great to have a comfy bed to sleep in. :)

Chilling out here today and tomorrow and then I'm heading to the airport the next day. !

I'm slowly uploading some more stuff...

A photo of me and my two traveling companions on the roadtop of the Cardrona hill.

I just uploaded a few more videos to youtube account of my trip. They're not that long, but I think they're kind of cool. (Video eats a heap of valuable space on my SD cards!)

Four days ago I headed out towards Arthurs pass along highway 73. The first day was a mix. Great tailwind for the first 20 km. Then the wind turned around. I stopped at 70 km and camped at Springfield. It was all basically flat (technically slightly uphill the whole day.)

The next day was Porters pass. So steep! ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/bobbotron/437123358/ ) I got up to this last bend, an then had to walk the rest of the way up. Once I was onto the mountains, it was really hilly. Lots of dips to cross over streams, and then up again on the other side.

I got to Castle hill. There were a ton of big bumble bees flying around, it was strange. Castle hill was great, what a interesting place. After exploring around there for a few hours I got back out to the road. I found out from two girls who were hitching that there was a free campsite about 10 km up the road. I hadn't decided what I was doing, so I decided to go there for the night. Glad I did! Ended up meeting a bunch of interesting rock climbers and an american cyclist.

The next day I headed back. Checked out Cave stream along the way but only got to the stream entrance. The water was too cold! Long ride back, about 110 km all together. Got in around 8:30 pm. Glad I have a lot of lights on my bike for safety.

Now I'm done my cycle tour! Spent yesterday in Christchurch, getting picked up soon to go to the airport to head up to Whangarei again.

Two days ago I was in a rock climbers paradise! I biked up Porters pass (my knee hurts) and hung out at Castle hill. There were a lot of rock climbers there. That night I camped at Craigburn, a freebie camp site and met a lot of cool climbers...

The last couple of days I [Mar. 23rd, 2007|09:28 pm]
[Current Location |Dunedin, New Zealand]

* saw a LOTR enactment near Queensland
* biked the Otago rail trail
* free camped hobo style. A wild goat ate grass nearby
* chased some sheep on my bike (sheep can run over 20 km/h!)
* had screwed up dreams while dogs barked nearby
* ate a venison and cranberry pie (yum)
* walked up the worlds steepest street
* consumed a lot of calories
* rolled over 6000 km on my odometre and drank a celebratory porter

I'm in Dunedin now. Tomorrow I head to Christchurch and am hoping to ride to Arthurs pass before I head back to Whangarei.
